Quan Wu-Jen Monk
by Douglas Bramlett
Homeland: Tian, the old imperial capital of the Quan Empire
"Each Quan must seize his own destiny. Within each of us is the power of a conqueror. Find that within your own self, and prosper."
You and your brethren once had to retreat to countryside estates when
you fell out of favor with various of the old Quan emperors. In the new
regime, you are confined to the imperial city of Tian, shunned by most
of the Quan still. But now you have time to ponder the lost glory of
your ancestors and seek the conqueror spirit within your own self. You
may craft poems, practice strategic games with the other outcasts, or if
the mood strikes you, draw new inventions. You know that nothing you do
really matters, but it emboldens the spirit within.
Your practice of elementism is a natural extension of your ability to
command. It is no surprise that you have mastered the four elements.
After all, your ancestors conquered the fiery Kang, the aquatic Sun-Ra,
the earth-bound Vajra, and the airy Mandalans. The Ispasians were
masters of the temporal. You are a master of them all.
